Als kind wilde ik archeoloog of medewerker in een oud archief worden. Geweldig leek me dat!
Maar helaas is het er nooit van gekomen...

When I was young I wanted to be and archeologist or work with old artefacts at a museum or something like that. But I never came that far....

You say Goodbye, I say Hello... Koning Alex

Komende dinsdag 30 april, is de laatste Koninginnedag. Koningin Beatrix treedt terug en nu krijgen we voor het eerst sinds ergens 1800 nogwat een Koning, Willem Alexander.
Best wel bijzonder! NIet dat er voor ons burgers veel verandert hoor. Hooguit andere munten en andere postzegels maar dat was bij de vorige Troonswisseling in 1980 ook zo. Alleen wordt het vanaf volgend jaar wel Koningsdag op de 27e april.
Trix heeft het goed gedaan, hopelijk doet Alex het net zo goed of beter. We zullen het vanzelf wel merken!

Coming tuesday april 30th, it will be our last Queensday, our Queen Beatrix will retire and we will have a King,  Willem Alexander, Kinda special, I guess, although there will be no spectacular changes for us civillians.  New coins, new postagestamps, and Kingsday at april 27th, that's all.
Beatrix did a good job,and now it's Alex' turn... Maybe he will be as good as his mother, or even better, time will tell!

The Second Time

This month AFSC challenge:  Scrap about one of your greatest current challenges, or a challenge from your past...
We both had failed marriages before and we would NEVER EVER marry again! Until Jimi asked and I said yes.
We are married for 11 years now and so far there has not been a day on which we had a fight or some quarreling.... So.... perfect marriages do exist :)

Scrap over een challenge....
Voor de tweede keer trouwen! Dat zouden we echt NOOIT MEER doen, helemaal nergens voor nodig... Totdat Jimi het vroeg en ik zomaar Ja zei...
We zijn nu 11 jaar getrouwd en er is nog geen dag geweest dat we ruzie of onenigheid hadden. Het perfecte huwelijk bestaat dus wel!

Angel Eyes

Brian, as a 1year old, looking up in surprise and wonder when he saw his Grandpa as a vicar on the pulpit, wearing a gown.
'Grandpa is wearing a dress!!!' he shouted,  right at the moment everybody in church was silent...


Brian als 1 jarig jongetje, heel verbaasd toen hij Opa als dominee in toga op de preekstoel zag staan.
'Opa heeft een jurk aan!!!' schalde het door de stille kerk....

JIM

One of the things I really want to do before I kick the bucket is paying a visit to Jim Morrison's grave at Père Lachaise Cemetary in Paris.... I've been there in 2000 and it was a very special feeling to be so close to the Lizard King! It's a pity I forgot to take a picture of myself...
I want to go back with Jimi, he hasn't been there yet.
But we cannot come as close anymore, there are fences around Morrison's grave now!  Such a shame.... it's so totally NOT JIM!

Ik met een legerhelm op die in het archief van de kazerne lag waar ik in 2008 een paar weken werkte :)

Puzzelen

Mijn andere grote passie, naast het scrappen dan, is puzzelen. En dan vooral Sudoku's, in allerlei soorten en maten. Ik heb een hele map op mijn pc staan met allemaal gescande Sudokupuzzels uit de krant etc. Zo kan ik altijd een puzzeltje afdrukken als ik er zin in heb!

I LOVE scrapbooking, but I also LOVE making puzzles... especially Sudoku! I have lots of them scanned and saved on my computer so I can print them if I fancy one!

Druk Vliegverkeer

Het is winter.... Laatst heb ik maar wat oud brood naar beneden gegooid voor de vogels en ik had nog net de tijd om wat foto's te maken voordat het weer weg was!

Winter..., I threw pieces of bread out of my balcony and it was gone in a minute!

Sinterklaas

1992 - Brian & Sinterklaas.

 Sinterklaas is a Dutch holiday, At december5th children get presents,
Sint arrives at a steamboat around half november and from that day on the kids can put one of their shoes in the house, together with some food and water for Sint's horse and sing some songs for Sinterklaas.In the night Sinterklaas will ride the roofs and visit the homes.
The next morning there might be a little present in the shoe. And of course the food and water are gone.

I think Sinterklaas and Santa Claus are rather similar? Except fot the date of course!

In de Boeken

Mijn eerste echte langdurige baan, in de boekwinkel! Boekhandel Veenendaal in Amersfoort, op de Langestraat.
Ik werkte daar van 1978-1980, en deze foto's zijn gemaakt toen de winkel na een grote verbouwing weer open ging.

I don't have photo's of my very first jobs, but I do have these... I worked at a bookstore in Amersfoort, and I loved it. These photo's are taken at the re-opening of the shop. It had changed from a small, dark and dusty store to this modern (end 70's!) shop.

Spooky's day off

There's a bunch of ghosts living at De Haar Castle.
And at a 'ghost-weekend' mr. Devil woke them up so we could see them!

Mijn schoolfoto van Vormingsklas b, De Horst in Amersfoort. . Die met de foute ruitjesbroek vooraan, dat ben ik.

I just turned 16 and I was too young to do the continuation schooling I would like to at that time. So I had to go to another school for a year. It was a school with almost only girls and we also had cooking lessons and needleworkclasses. Although that's not really my cup of tea, it was a fun schoolyear!
This is the photo of my class andtThe girl in front, with the chequered jeans, well, that's me...

The layout measures approx. 6x6 inch. And it's fun to do, those tiny ones!!

forever LOVE

Er zit elf jaar tussen de foto's maar echt veel zijn we niet veranderd.
Oké, Jimi's  had wat meer haar en het wat donkerder toen... 
En heel toevallig staan we ook zo ongeveer hetzelfde op de foto!


Jimi and me on the beach in 2001, and this year on our 10th anniversary.
We haven't changed much in these eleven years.
Ok, Jimi's hair changed... it's less and not that dark anymore, but that's it.
Funny, the photo's are almost identical!

Never Give Up

Nelson Mandela, hij was al een held in mijn jeugd, en zal dat ook altijd blijven.
Hij is de me man die mij geleerd heeft om nooit op te geven, en altijd in jezelf te blijven geloven. Hoeveel tegenwerking je ook hebt!
Veroordeeld tot levenslang voor zijn acties tegen Apartheid, na 27 jaar vrij gekomen en een paar jaar later president van Zuid-Afrika. Een betere inspiratiebron is er toch niet?

Nelson Mandela, my hero when I was young, and he still is and will always be!
He learned me to keep on believing in myself, despite everything..., and never to give up.
Mr. Mandela was sentenced to life in prison cause of his fight against Apartheid, finally came free 27 years later and became the President of South-Africa just a few years after that.
What more inspiration do you need...

Daisy

Daisy, she was my mom's dog.
They are both gone, for several years now... but they will never be forgotten!

Daisy, Ma's hondje... Ze zijn er allebei al jaren niet meer, maar vergeten zullen we ze nooit!
