I'm gonna walk a hundred miles...

This is Brian,  walking the Airborne March of 1997, the world's largest one-day marching event.
This remembrance march is in commemoration of the Battle of Arnhem 1944 and held every year on the first Saturday in September at the village of Oosterbeek (near Arnhem) in The Netherlands. The Airborne March is intended to honour the 1700 British and Polish soldiers and airmen who lost their lives during the Battle of Arnhem and are buried at the Airborne Cemetery at Oosterbeek.

This part of the lyrics of Mindy Gledhill's 'Whole Wide World' (StM 200a) fits perfectly with the photo, and I embellished the layout with Brian's medal (including the wings of the next year march)

because I love...

I think it's the only hitsingle Majority One had, in 1970. But in 2001 it was 'our song' again.
We just had met on the internet and many times we played  'Because I Love' simultaneously, Jimi in his house, and I in mine.
This photo fits the first couplet of the song.

Ik denk dat het de enige hit van Majority One is geweest, in 1970. Maar in 2001 was het weer ons liedje.  We hadden elkaar net ontmoet op het internet en we hebben 'Because I Love' heel wat keren gelijktijdig gedraaid, Jimi daar en ik hier.
Deze foto past heel goed bij het eerste couplet van het liedje.

Dream Car

The title 'In the back of a dream car, twenty foot long' , is a line out of David Bowie's song 'Golden Years', StM challenge # 199a.
Who knows, maybe little Brian was dreaming about a big limousine, asleep at the backseat of my sisters car.... :-)

Superstar

Stm 199b, do you recall a movie where the music really moved you?
Oh yeah, no doubt about that: Jesus Christ Superstar!
This movie is almost 40yrs old now, and especially 'Gethsemane' and 'Judas' Death' still give me shivers... You can feel the despair, the fear of Jesus (Ted Neeley) facing torture and his upcoming death and also of Judas (Carl Anderson) realizing he just has been used to forfill the scripture...

Een film waarvan de muziek je aangrijpt, dat is voor mij Jesus Christ Superstar. Zonder twijfel!
Deze film is nu bijna 40 jaar oud, en vooral van  'Gethsemane' en 'Judas' Death' krijg ik nog altijd koude rillingen. Je kan de angst, de vertwijfeling, de wanhoop voelen, zowel van Jezus die weet dat marteling en zijn dood nabij zijn, als van Judas, die beseft dat hij simpelweg gebruikt is...

How you...

This weekend's Supermoon was awesome... I saw pictures of it on the internet. Unfortunately it was far too cloudy in Holland to watch it. I wanted to do a layout about this Supermoon because it fits perfectly with the words I choose from the lyrics of 'Sparkle' by Rubyhorse, StM challenge #198a. So I used the photo's I took of last year's Supermoon instead.
Well, I hope the skies will be clear in 2016, when the next one will appear!

De Supermaan van afgelopen weekend was prachtig, op plaatjes van internet... Hier was het helaas veel te bewolkt om 'm te zien. Maar ik wilde persé een LO maken van de Supermaan, omdat de tekst van StM 198a er perfect bij past. Nou ja, ik heb dus maar een paar van mijn foto's gebruikt die ik vorig jaar heb gemaakt.
En nou maar hopen dat de lucht in 2016 wél helder is, als de volgende Supermaan komt!

My Favorites: The Cats

StM 198b:  Who was your favorite singer or band as a teen?
Well, see StM 197b :-) It's the same band of which I purchased my very first music: The Cats!
Of course I loved other music too, like Electric Light Orchestra,  Kayak (Dutch symphonic band, and still active!), Eagles, Demis Roussos (and Aphrodites Child), and also SOUL music, but I had almost every album of the Cats...

Wie was je favoriete zanger of band in je tienerjaren? Dat waren The Cats! (zie StM 197a :-)
Natuurlijk vond ik andere muziek ook heel mooi, maar The Cats waren de enigen waarvan ik zo ongeveer alle albums had...

De foto's van een enigszins mislukte barbecue (de hele handel vloog in de hens...) passen prima bij de woorden die ik uit deze songtekst heb gekozen.

LEA

 

StM 197B
Mijn eerste singletje... LEA van de Cats. Toen ik 'm hoorde op Radio Veronica was ik verkocht! Zo mooi.... Ik heb het plaatje gekocht en ben lid geworden van de fanclub (ik was net 9 :) ) en de jaren daarna heb ik zo ongeveer alle elpees van de Cats gekocht en grijsgedraaid. Nog steeds mag ik ze graag horen hoor, en ik brul de liedjes allemaal nog mee!

The first record I purchased was LEA of the Cats. I just turned 9 when I heard it on Radio Veronica and I went to the recordshop to buy this single, and joined the fanclub. Finally I had almost all albums. I still like to hear the Cats sing, although my taste of music is slightly different  nowadays :)

KING of the BLUES

StM # 195, a &b together... I choose 'the Blues' from the lyrics of 'The Time Song' by Matt Urmy, and I scrapped some photo's of the 2009 North Sea Jazz concert of the King of Blues, B.B. King.
We lucky ones found the most perfect spot, right in front of the stage, but unfortunately it was the wrong one.. The music started but the curtains stayed closed. And a huge crowd had gathered in front of the other stage. Never the less, it was a great concert!

In Stilte...

In Stilte.... een foto van Jimi bij het graf van Ma. Als het even kan, en het mooi weer is,  gaan we naar haar graf.  Een kannetje koffie mee, een rol koekjes of wat broodjes en we zitten daar zo een uur of twee, drie.
Het geeft ons innerlijke rust...

In Silence..., this is a photo of Jimi sitting in front of my mothers grave.
At moments we can afford the costs of travelling, and the weather is fine, we try to go there. And with a filled coffeecan, some cookies or sandwiches, we can easily stay there of two or three hours.
Those visits give us mental peace...

Survive

StM #192, I choose 'It's hard to Survive' because it is and it fits with the photo's of the foodsupport we received from some real friends. We really appreciate that and we LOVE you!
For far too many people this is the real life in the so called wealthy Netherlands. 'Our' MP Rutte claims there's no poverty here, so according to him we don't even exist. Well, we're sorry Mark, you're wrong!

Ik koos 'It's hard to Survive' omdat het zo is en omdat het bij de foto's past van de voedselpakketten die we van onze superlieve geweldige echte vrienden  hebben gekregen. Dat hebben we geweldig gewaardeerd en we houden van jullie!

Voor veel te veel Nederlanders is dit helaas het echte leven in ons zogenaamde rijke land. 'Onze' premier beweert dat er geen armoede is, dus volgens hem bestaan we gewoon niet eens. Nou, sorry Mark, je zit er heel ver naast!

Sit Down

StM #191, Caro Emerald 'That Man'
In an old photo album of my mom I found this picture of young mom and dad sitting on top of a 'hunebed' (is it called a dolmen in english? I'm not sure about that...) Anyway, I like this photo and it fits with the words 'sit down' in the lyrics of this song...
It's a small layout, something about 6.5x6.5 inch. I m finally using a scrapbook miniabum I have for years now. And believe it or not, it's fun to make these small sized ones! And challenging too... :)

In een oud fotoalbum van ma vond ik deze foto van pa en ma in hun jonge jaren, zittend bovenop een hunebed. Ik vind het een leuke foto en hij past wel bij de woorden 'sit down' uit de songtekst van 'That Man' van Caro Emerald.
De LO is klein, zo'n 16x16cm. Ik maak nou eindelijk een mini album vol dat hier al jaren ligt. En het is echt wel leuk om te doen, die kleintjes! En ook wel een uitdaging eigenlijk... :)

Art

StM #190, 'Art' by Tanya Davis.
I have lots of creative hobbies, but there's no room for all of them on one layout. So I choose writing (a mini booklet with some storytitles), I created a mini LO (10x10cm), an ATCcard and a tangle tile to show on this layout. So ArtJournal and drawing have to wait for a while... :)
But my all time favourite hobby is scrapping!

Ik heb (te)veel hobbies...  maar de meeste tijd gaat op aan scrappen. Voor deze LO heb ik een miniboekje gemaakt met wat verhaaltitels erop,  een ATCkaartje,  een miniLO van 10x10cm en een tanglekaartje. ArtJournaling en tekenen moeten nog maar even wachten, wie weet is het iets voor op een volgende LO...

Good for the Soul

This week's song at Scrapping the Music: 'I'm Alive'  by Kenny Chesney and Dave Matthews. I choose 'It's Good for the Soul'  and it fits perfectly wih these photo's!
In his teens Jimi lived for about 7 months at the Amsterdam Krishna Temple. I wished there were pictures of him then, but there are not... Anyway, the Bhagavat-gita still gives relief in stressful times.

Toen Jimi een jaar of 17 was heeft hij een maand of 7 in de Krishna Tempel in Amsterdam gewoond. Helaas zijn er geen foto's van hem uit die tijd... Maar hoe lang het ook geleden is, de Bhagavat-gita  geeft nog altijd verlichting in deze moeilijke tijd.

I got YOU

Er zijn niet veel mooie foto's van Jimi en mij, maar deze is geweldig!
En 'I feel good, I got YOU' is waar voor ons allebei, zonder elkaar zouden we helemaal nergens zijn...

There aren't many nice photo's of Jimi and me, but this one is just great!

Werk genoeg

Zondag 8 januari zat Henk Kamp op tv in Buitenhof uit zijn nek te lullen over 500.000 werklozen die direct aan het werk kunnen en 800.000 vacatures die er zouden zijn. Nou, waarschijnlijk bestaan die alleen in de sprookjeswereld waar die vent in leeft,  in de werkelijke wereld zijn ze niet te vinden. Maar dat misbaksel zet mij en vele andere werklozen wel neer alsof we  ww-profiteurs zijn, en daar ben ik eigenlijk wel behoorlijk pislink over! 
Nou ja, het heeft wel een aardige LO opgeleverd: foto's van het overweldigende aanbod aan vacatures op het UWV Werkplein....

Break the Silence!

OCCUPY! Eindelijk komt Jan met de Pet in aktie... In NYC zitten de bezetters al sinds half september op straat, en de akties hebben zich uitgebreid over heel de USA, en vervolgens over de gehele wereld. Van Zuid-Amerika, tot Azie, van Afrika tot Australie en Europa. Op 15 oktober beginnen de OCCUPY-akties ook in Nederland en wij zullen er zijn!

vows were spoken to be broken... BREAK the SILENCE!  The protests against unfairness, greed and politicians lies started at WallStreet NYC and spreaded all over the world. 1% has it all, 99 % just have the leftovers... Oct 15 OCCUPY also starts in Holland, and we will be there!
